The Elder Wizard Council
The Elder Wizard Council (prototype)
built for PIGSquad Summer Slow Jams June 2018
Technical theme: Minigames
Creative theme: The World is Alive

The original idea for this project came from a previous game jam, and the intent was to develop this as a tabletop board game. I opted to rapidly prototype the game mechanics using Scratch, partly as a challenge to myself and partly to be able to tweak numbers as I go. As a programmer/designer, I'm trying to build out the mechanics first...theme, art, and sound is obviously not a priority here.
Gameplay:
Each person takes on the role of a wizard tasked with performing spells to create enough energy to hold back an ancient evil from consuming the world. Each wizard specializes in a type of magic. The ebb and flow of mana, however, means resources are shared and augmented.
Each wizard has a board that they can spend mana points to upgrade their ability to perform spells. They then perform the spells, and the resulting mana is transferred to the next wizard.
Every round, the ancient evil will have to be fed an increasing amount of mana to be held back. Last enough rounds, and you will win the day!
Wizards:
- Wizard of Luck: rolls dice, and scores points based on the number of matches or straights
- Wizard of Fate: draws cards, and scores points based on the number of matches, straights, or flushes
- (Coming soon ) Wizard of Charm: a worker-placement minigame where points are scored depending on the population of certain zones, which also carry random bonuses
- (Coming Soon) Wizard of Battle: a simple RPG-style combat using polyhedral dice
